Gradual skin lightening methods involve the use of natural skin lightening products that brighten, lighten and unify the skin. Fast skin lightening methods involve the use of harsh chemicals that aim for a rapid reduction in skin pigmentation. As we delve deeper into both methods of skin lightening, you can decide which approach you’d like to take.

Gradual Skin Lightening

Gradual skin lightening methods seek to harmonise the skin tone without damaging the skin and permanently destroying melanocytes (healthy cells are important for a healthy body!).

What does this look like?

⬤  A natural, healthy, radiant skin complexion and a gradual reduction in areas of hyperpigmentation.  The result is a clear and even skin tone, and the products used are safe for long term use.

⬤  It can take several months and requires a maintenance routine.

⬤  Results are gradual and occur over time.

⬤  Common ingredients used include Alpha Arbutin, Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Retinol and Kojic Acid just to name a few.

A good example can be seen below. These are three month results.

This client of ours used our Liposomal Glutathione and Vitamin C products as well as our Tru’ Skin Serum and Soaps to achieve a clearer and lighter skin complexion.

Fast Skin Lightening

Fast skin lightening methods often aim for drastic results in the shortest period of time, frequently leading to damaged skin. Skin cells are permanently destroyed or altered to the point where they no longer function as they should.

What does this look like?

⬤  Blotchy and uneven skin. Some areas of the skin will appear ‘bleached’ and other areas will appear normal.

⬤  Skin cells are permanently altered, as such, if the products are discontinued, the skin does not appear as it once did.

⬤  Results are quick but temporary, as the skin barrier becomes too compromised to sustain the results.

⬤  Common ingredients used include hydroquinone, mercury and mequinol.

⬤  The skin barrier becomes compromised due to the harsh ingredients and chemicals found in these products.  Dryness, irritation and inflammation become a common problem.

⬤  A high level of maintenance is often required, as sun exposure must be limited to avoid immediate darkening/skin irritation

⬤  A high chance of ochronosis (blue-black pigmentation) as a result of long term exposure to hydroquinone.

Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to your skin, and having awareness of what you’re putting on your skin is important. Develop a routine that targets your hyperpigmentation effectively and safely. Get in touch with our team for more help.
